Why Some Woollen Garments Itch And Prickle!

Some people, like me, can’t wear most woollen sweaters or scarves next to their skin as they irritate and prickle.  This is because wool fibres have a scaly surface and when this surface comes into contact with our skin, it can irritate.  It all boils down to the strength of the fibre; thick stiff fibres do not bend when they come into contact with our skin.  It isn’t a true allergy, just a sensitivity to the texture of the fabric.

Even softer merino blends are no good for me.  If you’ve ever worn a woollen turtleneck, even a blended one, and found yourself yanking it away from your neck, trying to massage away that prickling feeling, you will know what I mean!

Luckily, I found cashmere which I can wear next to my skin, happily, 24/7.  Often considered the most luxurious type of wool, cashmere is a fine fibre that is stronger, lighter and soft and silky.  It is also breathable and durable.  Is there anything gorgeous cashmere isn’t?

This changed my world in terms of staying warm, cosy and comfortable, whilst looking stylish in winter and throughout the year.

Cashmere pants – tick!  Cashmere sweater – tick!  On their own or layered up – heaven….
